Diabetes is an illness that occurs when blood sugar(blood glucose) is too high which can be due to insulin resistance(Type 2 diabetes) or the inability to create insulin(Type1diabetes).

Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed during childhood.In contrast,type 2 diabetes can develop at any age but is more common in older populations.

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease that affects millions of people worldwide.Uncontrolled cases can cause blindness,kidney failure,heart disease and other serious conditions.
Before diabetes is diagnosed,there is a period where blood sugar levels are high but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.This is known as prediabetes.

It is estimated that up to 70% of people with prediabetes go on to develop type 2 diabetes.Fortunately, progressing from prediabetes to diabetes isn’t inevitable.

Prediabetes occurs when your blood sugar is identified as higher than normal,but is high enough to be type 2 among other symptoms.

Additionally,the dehydration that accompanies more frequent urination is a common cause of fatigue in diabetics.

To start eating healthier today,keep an eye out for these four food groups that are known to increase the risk of type 2 diabetes;
1.Highly processed carbohydrates e.g Garri,pounded yam,semovita,amala,fufu,rice etc
2.Sugar-sweetened drinks .
3.Saturated and Trans fats e.g Fried foods,margarine,snacks,pork etc
4.Red and processed meats.
